September Update

Club member, Cherrie Genat is back in Madagascar volunteering with the Australian Doctors for Africa organisation. The man below is the same man who had the bone sticking out of his leg in the last post back in June! They were able to remove his external fixation and gave him a pair of crutches (seen below), generously donated by our members.

He will be discharged from hospital in the next few days after a long four month stay.

A huge thank you to the members who donated a total of 18 crutches! An incredible effort and life changing for the patients.

RFGC member, Cherrie Genat has returned from Madagascar with the Australian Doctors for Africa organisation.

Cherrie has volunteered for ADFA for over 20+ years and this trip was the first since COVID19, and as you can expect, it was incredibly busy.

Working with the Orthopedic team, Cherie witnessed gut wrenching scenes of people mobilising on tree branches, some after operations for osteomyelitis and gunshot wounds. The patient in the image on the left had to walk around on a broken leg with no crutches, the bone was out of the skin for 5 months (as seen in the x-ray) unable to heal.

We are asking members to donate any crutches that may be laying around the house or shed to be put to a very valuable cause.

The office will be collecting the crutches on behalf of Cherrie until the 18 August.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
