Members were welcomed to the 102nd Royal Fremantle Cup, a remarkable milestone for one of the Club\u2019s most enduring events. We were pleased to have Board Members Barry Francis, Clayton Gunning and Mara Pritchard in attendance to mark the occasion.<\/p>\n

First played in 1924, the Fremantle Cup began as a 36-hole bogey competition and an open event, with an entry fee of five shillings and a prize purse that was, at the time, considered one of the most generous in Western Australia. Coverage from The West Australian following the inaugural event praised the initiative and generosity of the Club, recognising it as a significant contribution to the game.<\/p>\n

A unique feature of the Cup\u2019s early history was the provision that it would be held outright by any player who won it three times, a feat yet to be achieved. Several notable members have come close, including Life Members Geoff Haynes, Neil Cleary and Don Urquhart, as well as Charlie Fiorentino, Brian Peake and John Eadie, each claiming the title twice.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s field delivered a tightly contested competition, with strong performances across the board.<\/p>\n
